Temporary Rate Reduction

South Dakota's current 4.2% state rate is temporary. The rate was reduced from 4.5% on July 1, 2023, and will remain at 4.2% through June 30, 2027, after which it returns to 4.5%.

Important: If you're making long-term tax planning decisions, remember that the state rate will increase by 0.3% (from 4.2% to 4.5%) on July 1, 2027.
